History

The Latinum guard was formed in 2364 under direction of a wealthy Ferengi banker and weapons merchant named Na'rak. Their original purpose was to guard his private vaults, business inventory and act as private security for his numerous homes, ships and installations.

As of 2366 the Latinum Guard was the largest private security force in the Alpha Quadrant made up mostly of slaves and economic migrants with nowhere to go the group was renowned for being disorganised but ruthless.

In 2369 Nar'ak hired former members of the Andorian Guard, Klingon Defense Force and Bajoran Militia to train and organise his men.

By 2371 the Latinum Guard were being advertised for use as private security. The following year elements of the Latinum Guard were thought to be connected to several murders, robberies and high profile accidents.

At the outbreak of the Dominion war they had been organised and restructured into a quasi-military structure with Generals, a command structure, officers and enlisted soldiers. Companies were quickly employed by the Ferengi government to guard key infrastructure and economic planets and installations.

In 2375 a desperate Federation employs three companies of the Latinum guard to bolster forces in Sector 001. While the contract is accepted, an aged and weak contingent is sent. Meanwhile, fitter and younger units are sent to booster Dominion Forces that are encountering resistance.

2378 The Latinum Guard is employed as a peacekeeping force on Bajor. The Dominion do not allow Bajoran members of the guard on the planet. The Lieutenants and Majors assigned to the contract are instructed to ensure their men's discretion.

2379 A large contingent of Orion slaves are sold to the Latinum Guard for work as Lancers.

2381 The Latinum guard are employed by the Dominion to halt the Borg advance. While successful in their contract they take heavy losses. Their former Federation members display open hostility towards Na'rak and his Ferengi Generals who are placing profit ahead of lives.

2383 There is open mutiny among the ranks of the Latinum Guard. Na'rak agrees to better working conditions for Lancers in exchange for a bigger cut of their profits.

2385 The Latinum Guard signs a major contract with the Tal Shiar and Romulan Galae. Nearly the entire guard relocates to Romulan space bolstering their military.

2389 Na'rak sells the Latinum guards services to rival powers. The Majors and Lieutenants refuse to have their men fight each other. The Generals order Kill Masters to wipe out the officer class and place key allies into leadership roles.

2391 The Tal Shiar grow weary with having the Latinum Guard on both sides of any conflicts and skirmishes. Na'rak and his Generals are paid a substantial amount of money to sign a non compete contract.

2394 After three years of working almost exclusively for the Romulans Na'rak reneged on his non compete deal.

2395 Na'rak and his Generals are found to have died in their sleep. Four of the longest-serving Majors appoint themselves generals and take control of the Latinum Guard. They renew their non compete deal with the Romulans and appoint trusted officers to command positions, almost all Ferengi officers and members are killed or discharged. The Latinum Guard is ordered to wear a recognisable uniform, use only standard licensed equipment and vessels.

2396 The Latinum Guard has become the largest and most recognisable private army in the Alpha Quadrant. They will take on almost any contract as long as it doesn't involve any hostilities towards the Romulan Star Empire.

Organisation

The Latinum Guard works much like a modern Starfleet or Ground Force.

The Latinum General acts as Commander in Chief. While three Gold Generals each take responsibility for one of the Guards large Task Forces.

Within Each Task Force is a Task Group controlled by a Major. Each Task group has several Companies assigned to it under the Leadership of a Lieutenant.

Each Company, Task Group or Task Force has the autonomy to negotiate their own contracts as long as they are not openly hostile to the Romulan Empire or puts them in direct competition with any other arm of the Guard.

The Guard fund themselves from Na'raks wealth and business enterprises as well as the Latinum they make from contracts with various powers. Each Lancer, Master and Officer is expected to pay franchise fees which pays for their ships, weapons, food and basic health care.

For someone to advance through the ranks of the guard they have to display considerable skills or talent in combat, engineering or tactical planning. But promotions are not awarded on merit alone. To proceed to the next rank it is expected that you pay your superior officer a 'tuition fee'. This covers your training for the next rank. Upon completion of training their may be several other Lancers all competing for the same position or grade as such paying a bribe or 'completion fee' to your superiors is commonplace. As there are no set limits for the tuition fees and completion fees many Lancers end up stuck in the recruit or apprentice grades as they can not afford the high prices set by their superior.

Ships

The Guard operate a fleet of Romulan Talon and D'deridex Class Warbirds that have been purchased from the Romulan Star Empire.

The ships are maintained exclusively by the Guard. Production of new ships and parts is handled exclusively by the Romulans.

The ships of the Latinum Guard are referred to as Warships and have three prefix LWS. Their hull is painted dark orange and gold to match the colour of the guards uniforms and distinguish them from the Warbirds operated by the Romulans.

Uniforms and Weapons

All lancers wear a military uniform when on duty. Due to the reputation and respect the Guard carry some choose to wear uniform in their down time as well. The uniform consists of black combat boots, burnt orange jumpsuits with a mandarin collar displaying their rank. For body armour every Lancer wears a curais, plain black for enlisted men, black and gold for Masters, Silver for junior officers and gold for senior officers and Generals.

All members of the guard are called lancers after the force lance weapons they carry. The lances are a modified Klingon pain stick about five feet in length. The opposite end to the pain inducing device is a bayonet like blade attached to a phaser muzzle. The controls of which are in the centre of the lance. The phaser component of the lance has only setting, Kill! While the force lances can be hard to handle they are deadly. In the hands of a skilled Lancer they are a force to be reckoned with. The force lance has such a fearsome reputation that the very sight of it has caused people to back away from a confrontaion with the Lancer carrying it.

Roles

Lieutenants

Most companies are headed by a Lieutenant of either Gold or Silver Class. They are responsible for approving contracts, the deployment and tactical operation of their unit and successful completion of their contract. Most of the day to day running of their company is left to their Deputy Lieutenant and Pay Master with the Lieutenant acting as a planner and field commander. Their position can be a dubious one as there are harsh punishments meted out for failure to complete a contract. The only real face time they have with those under their command is either in the field or with the Deputy Lieutenant and Pay Master.

Deputy Lieutenant

While the Lieutenant plans and commands the company from a distance the Deputy Lieutenant ensures their orders are carried out and is responsible for most of the day to day running of the company. They maintain order among the men and fulfill all training requirements. In field operations they act as second in command. Their position is a dubious one as often Lieutenants may try to scapegoat their deputies for the failure of a contract.

Pay Master

The senior most enlisted member of any company. They negotiate contracts on their Lieutenants behalf and act as the company treasurer. They ensure that all purchasing of weapons and equipment is completed at a reasonable price, they are also responsible for paying the officers and crew and making sure franchise payments to the Generals are up to date.

They are also responsible for the discipline of the men and ensuring any penalties and punishments are meted out as well as debts collected. They are one of the principle trainers within any Latinum Guard company.

Breach Master

A Lancer who is fully paid on their dues and completed all their apprenticeships and training in the field of infiltration and extractions. They are highly skilled in the use of explosives and covert infiltration technologies. A well trained Breach Master can make it into Dominion facilities relatively undetected.

Kill Master

A Lancer who is fully paid on their dues and completed all their apprenticeships and training in the field of assignation and marksmanship. These deadly lancers are trained in the art of poisoning, wet work and sharp shooting. A single well trained Kill master is capable of assassinating the most well guarded politician or state official.

Machine Master

A Lancer who is fully paid on their dues and completed all their apprenticeships and training in the field of engineering. They are highly competent engineers versed in multiple technologies including Ferengi, Federation, Klingon, Romulan and Cardassian to name a few. The Machine masters are deployed to not only claim assets in the companies name but also to repair and maintain their existing technology.

Master of Herbs

A Lancer who is fully paid on their dues and completed all their apprenticeships and training in the field of pharmacology and herbology. With the company unwilling to pay the extortionate costs to heal injured soldiers it is up to the Masters of Herbs to tend to the wounded. They are responsible for healing basic flesh wounds and injuries, but if a Lancer is critically wounded they will often assist them in ending their life. This will usually be through the administration of strong narcotics, that induce euphoria before death. Some unscrupulous Master of Herbs also sell narcotics to Lancers in the company and to civilians.

Lancers

They make up the bulk of a Latinum Guard company. They are the riflemen and boots on the ground of their combat operations and the hired muscle behind almost all of their endeavours. Highly trained in small unit tactics and large scale assaults they have a feared reputation throughout the quadrant. Lancers have the opportunity to advance through the ranks by buying apprenticeships and promotions from their superiors.
